Used to be almost a weekly thing in high school but now its more like. Well they are few and far between but my friends and I still occasionally will get together for a LAN party. its amazing how fast one can go from a gameoholic to a workoholic I think that private LAN parties are still around as much as ever, just for a younger crowd with less responsibilities and more free time. No actual gaming centers that I know of are still in operation around here, though. My son has occasionally taken his desktop to his friend's house for gaming sessions before, and we've had a few of them over as well. Seems like it would be a lot easier to have LAN parties these days with laptops and such, not as much to lug around. even when lugging the entire setup and getting everyone on the same versions of GameX etc. but it just isn't the same as seeing the look of shock/surprise/disgust on your friends faces when you frag them over and over and over and over. agreed it's far easier to game over the internet these days.

I'd participate whenever/wherever possible. I want to go because i moved away from all my friends and other then my wife (who lives here and has friends) i have no one and nothing to do. Now if I were to go to a place like that I'd have no one to go with and would wind up being the old creepy guy.

For me, however, getting older, having kid(s) and friends moving away pretty much killed the whole scene. i liked hanging out with a group of gamers in a place filed with PCs and some good pizza. that aside what about just the social part. Well the hardware is smaller now and a lot of people use laptops.
